Ahmed Anil

All thanks to Allah, The Almighty, for making me an artist among 8 billion people in the world. Since 1981, I have been true to my passion for creating art that expresses topics personal to me and relatable to the community. My art has become a way of describing my inner emotions, thoughts, inspirations and stories I choose to tell. I try to elaborate my art within contemporary abstract expressionism and representations. I mostly use oils and acrylics in my craft.

I let myself get lost in the process of creating paintings with colours, textures and movements. It’s like embarking on a journey to the unknown; I don’t know where it will take me in the end, and that’s what I like the most.

I’m concerned and worried that we have already forgotten our traditional craft and culture, which has often been expressed in the form of art. Sadly, the value of and motivation for artists in the Maldives is fading away.

The collection encapsulates the everchanging natural world, and all its perfect systems, alive and evolving; and each frame invites the audience to be absorbed into it to find some respite from the chaos of this world; and to experience these full spectrum of emotions and feelings for a moment.
